Which Status of Christian Life Are You?
I am sharing this short reflection, which I wrote in 2014 and was part of my inspirational talk with Filipinos at Invercargill Central Baptist Church.
Meeting and ministering with migrant workers allows me to learn their aspirations and hardships, including their desire to give their families a better life in New Zealand or their home country. ➔CLICK TO READ MORE
Church Meeting on 11 May Sunday
After the 11th May Sunday worship service, there will be a meeting to decide on two matters:
Elders’ election
Adjustment to the constitution.
All present are welcome to attend, but only enlisted members can vote.
We will hold a fellowship lunch on Sunday, 11 May, to celebrate Mother’s Day. Please bring food to share.
Holding fellowship lunches is also about team-building, where we volunteer to prepare, serve, and help with the aftercare tasks. Please be ready to participate.
Two May Events – Ladies’ Morning Tea and Mid-week Fellowship
Mark the 20th & 28th of May!
LADIES’ Morning Tea on 20th May, 10:00 AM at OBC. Come and share 2 things you have learned from life.
Midweek Fellowship for ALL on 28th May, 10:00 AM at OBC. Bring something of encouragement to share and some ideas for the future.
A Lecture-Seminar on Assertiveness by Dr. Val Gonzales
Val and Chelly
Our family friends, Dr. Val and Chelly Gonzales, will visit Oamaru from June 9 to 18, 2025.
They live in Mesquite, Texas. Val is an educator, minister, licensed psychotherapist, and amateur photographer who has served in Southeast Asia and North America.
During their visit, Val will preach in the morning and hold a lecture-seminar on assertiveness on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 2:00 PMat OBC.
Val will preach about the church and mental health. Please invite your family and friends to join our worship service.
The lecture-seminar “To Understand and To Be Understood—A Seminar on Assertiveness” is open to all church members and the community. Please plan to attend and invite others.
In June 2017, they also came to Timaru, and Val conducted a “Building Relational Skills” lecture at Wilson Street Baptist Church. Let’s pray for their preparation and a safe trip to New Zealand.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:26

Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday Schedule
We will hold a Good Friday Service on 18 April at 3:00 PM. We will celebrate the last seven statements of Jesus Christ on the cross.
The Resurrection Sunday will be held on the regular Sunday time at 10:00 AM.

“‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’” (Luke 15-31-32)
On 20 April, Resurrection Sunday, I invite you to share your “resurrection” story. As many of you might remember from previous celebrations, we share stories about how God has revived, revitalised, or renewed our lives. Please share in three to five minutes. Thank you!

Who am I…? Who am I to give Hope to people affected by cancer? When I can barely manage the common cold? Or a bruise on my shin?
We thank our Lord God Almighty for re-growing BC in the past two-plus years. As we move towards reorganising in the first quarter of 2025, let us take note of the following:
Install new members on 19 January 2025. Please approach Bevan or Jonan if you wish to become a member. Any person who confesses faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who has been Baptised (by immersion) as a believer, who shows evidence of following Christ in the newness of life and who is willing to uphold the commitments as outlined in the Members’ Pledge may apply to become a Church member.
Please think and pray about two or three members we will nominate to the Eldership between now and mid-February 2025. We will publish more details about this.
We are looking at reframing our Constitution and By-Laws to fit the present church’s context and situation in February 2025.
We will hold our annual general meeting (AGM) Pastor’s 2025. The annual reports, namely the Pastor’s report, the Leadership Team’s report, and the Financial report will be available in February.
Let us pray for these 1st Quarter 2025 plans. Thank you.

The trees need trimming, our fence and gate need repairs, and our flower and greenery patch needs some TLC. There is so much to do. Please come. See you!
Men’s Burger Evening held Saturday, 7th December
About 15+ old and young men came and held a burger evening. Thanks to Rodney’s super BBQ, burgers and buns were done in a jiffy.
The young man who squeezed hard that BBQ sauce had indeed had a saucy evening. The burger champion was the one who had the tallest stack of burgers, bacon, tomato slices, etc. and managed to eat it without deconstructing the burger sandwich. That was a full-filling evening.
From what I’m hearing, the men plan to have another fellowship in the first quarter of 2025.
